HEALTHY EATING: CAN YOU PUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE INTO PRACTICE?

What was perceived as healthy eating fifty years ago is not what it is today if we are to apply all the new information we have gathered. Due to technology, we now understand human biology on another level that is incomparable to even half a decade ago. Let’s take, for example, the popular Atkins diet when it comes to weight loss. It does work should you desire to trim down, but so many things will make you lose weight as well that would be detrimental to your health. Eating a high protein diet( what Atkins diet is about) is very taxable on your body, and in particular: liver, kidneys, and gut.

I KNOW IT IS NOT GOOD FOR ME, BUT YET I DO IT.

There are some adjustments to be implemented when it comes to each person, but we all know that eating highly processed foods, overeating in general, and consuming alcohol regularly are unhealthy habits. But why then we can’t stop this behaviour? We know it’s unhealthy, but yet we do it over and over again: Knowing something doesn’t necessarily translate into applying it. Putting the knowledge into practice: this is the tricky part, and most of the time, you will need guidance, an inspiration. Think about how many people go out of the University with a tremendous amount of knowledge that they often opt to never use, till maybe, if they are lucky, they get inspired actually to put this knowledge into use.

Our eating habits are deeply integrated into us since childhood. Many of the foods we eat are sentimental to us and give us a feeling of safeness, something like a family blanket around us. Now, if you learn later in life that what you ate as a child might be causing you health issues, you will most likely ignore this information even though you completely understand it. The older we get, the more difficult it becomes to change habits we did for decades and decades.

Life should be enjoyable, so I am not suggesting here you should eat in some specific way that will keep you in optimal health, but will deprive you of enjoying food. I believe healthy food should be enjoyable and could absolutely resemble anything you fancy with the right adjustments.
