YOU ARE NOT WHAT YOU EAT, YOU ARE WHAT YOU ABSORB!

It is naïve to believe that you can type your daily food intake in an application, and you will find out how many vitamins and minerals your body absorbed. For sure, you will understand the micros and macros of your meal, so this can be helpful to educate yourself about the nutritional value of this particular food. Still, there is no guarantee that you will benefit from those nutrients.

Many factors are the crucial drivers of digestion. Let’s say you have a leaky gut, or SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), inflammation, stress, insulin resistance, or other abnormalities: you will most likely have a highly compromised nutritional absorption, resulting in deficiencies, no matter what the application indicates.

How to know if your body is nourished?

Of course, the most accurate approach would be a simple blood test. However, this blood test can only show the “picture of now,” which is an excellent indicator, but there are few steps we can follow to “read the body” daily:

How is your sleep? Do you fall asleep easily, do you sleep deeply, and do you wake up refreshed and energized?

How is your appetite? Do you have cravings? Do you enjoy your meals? How do you feel after a meal? Any bloating? Pain? Are you constipated? Do you experience stomach acid?

How is your ability to focus? How is your memory? How is your mental state in general? Do you get easily aggravated or anxious? How good are you at managing stressful situations?

How is your physical state, such as flexibility, agility, and endurance? How is your recovery after exercising?

How is your enjoyment in life? Are you able to physically and cognitively perform everything you wish? Age is not to be blamed here! Those sixty and seventy-year-old runners are not an oddity; they are an example of what humans are actually capable of should they correctly take care of their bodies. The same applies to those people who speak five languages and can read a book per day! You might think those qualities don’t come down to nutrition, but to a great extent, they do! A brain that is starved for nutrients will not function well, muscles that are depleted of supply will perform lousily.
